Our Story
Deep Detection was established in 2020. Originally a spin off from the Institute of High Energy Physics (IFAE, Institut de Fisica d´Altes Energies) located in the high tech campus of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB).
The company has grown to design, manufacture, assemble and test its X-ray cameras from the head office based in Barcelona. Deep Detection is now a regional leader in microelectronics design and physics-informed AI strategies.
Demonstration Facilities
Visit our test facility at the Parc Tecnòlogic del Vallès, just outside Barcelona. Our application engineers will demonstrate the power of photon counting and recommend solutions to your detection challenges.
Assembly and Test
Final assembly and QC testing is carried out to our high standards on each sensor board and every finished camera. Here clients can request specific features from mechanical shielding or aperture filtering to digital configurations for target inspection conditions. challenges.

David Ciudad, CEO
Passionate about technology, business and team leadership. David has led industrial and technology companies for more than 21 years. From 2020 he took on a new CEO role to leave his mark on the world through Deep Detection with the shared vision of his co-founders Colin and José Gabriel: Better inspection for a safer and more circular world.
Colin Burnham, COO
Following a 25 year career spanning innovation, technology scale up and product commercialisation across diverse markets, Colin started to look for a deep tech project to take advantage of emerging AI capabilities. Today as COO he focuses on product strategy and end to end operations, from manufacturing to ensuring clients can successfully utilise PhotonAi cameras.
Dr. José Gabriel Macías, CTO
Before starting the journey with Deep Detection as co-founder and CTO, Dr. José Gabriel Macías spent days and nights thinking about transistors and amplifiers as the lead microelectronics researcher for a wide variety of applications from satellite communications to retinal implants and pixelated readouts for high energy physics detectors.
